Sociologists might wonder - what’s in a name? Or, what’s in a label? Here at UNC Asheville I had the dubious honor of being labeled a “non-traditional student,” which in this case meant I didn’t fit the typical age profile. But hey – there were lots of us, and we were just as accepted as the “traditional” students. In fact, I always felt supported by the Soc/Anthro faculty, staff, and students alike. The professors are awesome, approachable, and available. They are teaching classes they not only care about, but are extremely well versed in. I found classes to be informative, challenging, and thought provoking and I’d even have to say that some of my classes were life changing. Now that’s intense! My fellow students were engaged, informed, and really fantastic people. In my case, I went on to grad school in the Department of Sociology at a major university feeling well prepared and extremely grateful for my experience at UNC Asheville.
