Clayton Crowhurst

Class of 2010

Right now I have been working with Imagine Energy,a growing home performance and solar power construction company here in Portland. I am currently a site supervisor with the company and help to weatherize homes and install new HVAC technologies including ductless "mini-split" systems. I am also learning how to do plumbing on tankless and solar hot water heating systems. The company is growing really fast and I get to work with a lot of very smart and hard working folks everyday so I am loving it. I've also been able to travel to a lot of places in Oregon including Crater Lake, Mount Hood and Mt. St. Helens. I've also been able to get connected with the local Habitat for Humanity and volunteer a little bit.

While I'm not currently working at a sociology specific job I really do use a lot of what I've learned every day to understand the people I work with and the homeowners whose houses we're working on. I also am consuming all the knowledge I can about the field I'm in right now and I know that my hunger for that is directly related to the enjoyment I got out of learning and class time in the department. Before coming to UNC Asheville I was fed up with learning all together but the professors in the department really helped me love learning again. I also am able to tackle so many things at work with a new perspective that an engineer doesn't bring to the the table. And in the future I see myself being able to combine my passions for building and sociology into something really great.
